Hurricane Matthew

Forward in Health and our medical clinic, Klinik Fonfred, took a direct hit from Hurricane Matthew on Tuesday October 4, 2016.

Our work is centered in southern Haiti in the Les Cayes area of Haiti.  Hurricane Matthew was a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds reaching over 140 mph.  In addition, the area has been devastated by flooding destroying homes, the local market, and businesses.  Electrical power, spotty during good times, is non-existent.

LesCayes-floodingAs of Wednesday morning October 5, 2016, our staff has been unable to reach Klinik Fonfred to assess damage.  The bridge out of Les Cayes running towards Fonfred is not passable.  Our staff’s goal is to reach the clinic or contact people in the area today.

In addition to evaluating the clinic and getting it up and running again, we need to prepare for what will undoubtedly be an increase in sick people.  After a disaster and flooding such as this we will need to prepare for Cholera, Malaria, and Typhoid among other diseases.

Klinik Fonfred is there for just such a situation.  We have proven after the 2010 earthquake that FIH gets results.  We will be there for the people of Southern Haiti.  Please help us by making a donation through PayPal or a credit card with the donation button above.
